2024 Club Coach – Andy Tierney

We are excited to announce that Andy Tierney has signed on as club coach for the Ringwood Saints in 2024.

Hi Sainters,

Firstly let me say thank you to the RSBC committee and the wider club for the trust in appointing me as your new head coach for 2024 and beyond. I feel privileged to be given the role at such a great club and I am keen to get to work. I have a long history of many battles against Ringwood, including being on the receiving end of the Saints last Premiership in 2006 (No I do not have a 3-Peat hat).

I have a strong connection to many of the Saints members having spent my summer playing days at Blackburn, but for those that dont know me, here is a little bit about me.

I am Andy Tierney – I am a twin to Dave, you have probably met him or confused us at some point in time. A safe way when you aren’t sure is I hit left handed he hits right, or just call us both Dandy.

My wife is Victoria and together we have 2 young boys, Max and Jenson – they love Basketball and Footy and have just started baseball this summer and loving that too, both lefty hitters but somewhere along the line became lefty throwers too, yuck!

As far as baseball goes I have represented Victoria and Australia and played in the ABL , however my most cherished achievements have been playing in 5 summer and 5 winter premierships with my best mates. These are days I will remember for the rest of my life.

I have coached previously in the MWBL at both Heathmont and Knox, both great clubs but both very different experiences. I have also coached Melbourne in division one in the summer where we took the club to a club championship.

My philosophy on coaching is pretty simple, create a fun and encouraging environment with a player driven set of rules in which we hold ourselves to across the entire club.

I believe we have a really strong list at the top end and some exciting youth coming through which is really exciting. The new facilty is first class and I am really keen to get down there and make a start.

Understanding that most of the guys are in a really busy period of summer baseball we will wait a few weeks and get together up at the club for a quick chat and a catch up where we can set some goals and start to put our collective heads around the season ahead.

Thanks again and I will see you at the ballpark

Andy

The Ringwood Saints would also like to acknowledge and say thank you to Nic Unland for taking on the role of Club Coach in 2023.

In what was a frustrating season due to unexpected fluctuating player availability and injurys, Nic’s leadership was essential in getting us through a challenging year. Not only did we remain competitive, the club was also able to provide more opportunities for our up and coming young talent.

Although he is not continuing in the role, we feel incredibly lucky that ‘Nico’ will still be a valued member of the playing group in 2024, and we look forward to seeing him contribute and lead by example as he always has.

Once again – a massive thank you Nico to everyone at the Saints.
